I am amazed how often I get questions from people on the best way to market themselves online. They want to know the right tactics to developing a great referral system or the right tactics to getting more traffic to their website.
I'm a firm believer that the tried and true principles of marketing have never changed... only the tactics have changed. However, when we focus only on the tactics, we find that we will often miss the big picture.
Focusing on the tactics is like asking someone how to build a house and they say, "Well you get some carpenters and drywallers together and tell them to go at it." If you did this, your house would probably not stand very long and certainly wouldn't fit your vision.
Whether you are running a business, department or team; whether you are thinking professionally or personally; you must be who you are.
Do not try to be something you are not.
Being yourself is the first step to a great marketing strategy. Even when bringing new products to market - make sure they fit with who you are.
When you are true to yourself, you'll find greater success and the people that are like you will naturally come to you.
