What is a CMS?

Building a website is a complicated affair, there’s no way around it. It just is. Have you ever tried to jump into your company’s site to make some changes, only to presented with walls of intimidating code?

The smallest error in code is potentially detrimental to an entire site. The prospect of ruining a website can cause even the most intelligent people to shy away from the task of website updates, leaving them to the IT guy handle the updates when he can “get around to it.”

That’s no good.

The Importance of Consistency

Far too often I will visit a website only to be greeted by a page crammed with logos, pictures and text telling me to do things. It’s overwhelming.

When I go to a website, it’s with a specific goal, whether to learn more about a company, check out their products, or just find contact information. I didn’t land on the website by accident. I don’t need a slew of pop-ups telling me what to do and what to learn. What I do need is an intuitive menu structure where I immediately know where to click to get the information I’m looking for.

Why You Need a Homepage Mockup

I know you're excited to get your shiny new website up and running. You want to dive in and get started on a web presence that shows who you are, what you stand for, and lets the world know that you have arrived. You want it defy conventions and set a new standard for web design. You want someone to sit down at their computer and have their only desire be to navigate to your site and marvel at its greatness.

Hold your horses, cowboy, there's just one problem. You don't know what you're doing!

So, You've Hired a Web Developer...

You've made the decision to make your web presence shine, and have hired a web developer to make you a beautiful new website. Great! Having an experienced web development company build a website for you can be a cooperative, rewarding experience. Or it can also be a grueling struggle with lackluster results, IF you don't follow this one important rule:

There is nothing more important than trusting the experts you hired to be, well, experts. They want nothing more than for you to have a beautiful website that wows your visitors, but this can only be accomplished through working together and having faith that they know what they are talking about.

I often see people excited to start the process of building their brand new website, until it comes time to think about the nitty-gritty details. It is easy to overlook things like best practices for navigation and an intuitive end-user experience. As much as you love the that pop-up of “relaxed industry professional” as way to greet users to the site, we promise that your users do not love it nearly as much.
