How to have A Successful Website Strategy Meeting

Written by Sarah Wai | Oct 13, 2018 4:50:00 PM

We'll give it to you straight- the success of a website development strategy meeting depends mostly on YOU. How you respond to and work alongside teams will greatly affect the tone, efficiency, productivity and overall results that come from the meeting. However, there are some other aspects to take into account as well, which we'll cover in this blog.

What a Successful Strategy Meeting is NOT

Let's say you were referred to a friendly web developer who's a friend of a friend. You show up to the friendly web developer's house, well, his Mom's house, and as you sit down for lemonade to wait for your basement-dwelling, self-proclaimed web developer to creep up the stairs, you are probably thinking to yourself, "Is this a good idea?" If you have that thought, then you probably already know the answer- It's not.

A legitimate web developer usually has a team to back them up, and they should always be professional. If they aren't, we suggest looking for someone or a company who does. Maybe we're the right fit for your needs. Maybe we aren't. Click the button below to schedule a meeting and find out.

Tips for a Successful Initial Strategy Meeting

1. Have the meeting at the web developer's place of business. This will give you a good feel for the culture of the company you're working with.

2. Bring your big decision-makers. The meeting will consist of the projects team you've hired, and you (the client) should bring any other decision-makers on your side of the project. This meeting is where the project team and all the decision-makers hash out all the details of your website and make some big decisions dealing with goals and objectives.

3. Remember that they are trained professionals who have your best in mind. It can be hard when you start hashing out things to remember that the professional web projects team has done this hundreds of times before and know what kind of success you will or will not see from certain functionality, content, etc. As difficult as it may be, rest in the fact that they truly do know what they are doing and everything they do is for you to see success!

Who you can expect to see at the strategy meeting

The Sales Consultant

This individual has already established a relationship with you and has scoped out the project. They are also here to ensure a clear transition of the client (you) to the project team, as well as help communicate your needs and expectations.

The Project Manager

This is a professional who helps streamline the process of the project. He or she helps simplify communications by being the single point of contact between you and the project team. The project manager also provides oversight for project costs and timelines, and ensures that everyone on the team is on the same page and receives the same direction. Your project manager's goal is to keep the project moving on time, within budget, and in alignment with your goals.

The Content Strategist

They say that content is the cornerstone of your website. The content strategist is a vital part of your project and will advise on content structure and organization. Your content strategist will lay the foundation for a site that will get found by search engines and help ensure your content will be read and digested easily by site visitors.

The Website Designer

Your strategist is a designer first and a techy nerd second. Brilliant and up-to-date on online business trends, website design, user experience, and technology concepts, you can trust they know their stuff. They will ensure that your website is not only aesthetically appealing but is functional and easy to navigate for your website visitors.

Utilize the professionals that you will have helping you achieve your goals! Lean on their expertise and trust them through the process. Then you can count on having a positive and successful website design process!
