Understand How Your Audience Uses Facebook

Your brand has a presence on Facebook, and on top of that, you are out there posting at least every few days (if not more). You have built up a pretty decent following already too. Congratulations, you have officially taken the leap into world of social media! Now though, you may be asking yourself why people aren’t engaging as much as you would like with your post.

Engagement on posts is important. Not only does it validate the work that you are doing on social media, but it also shows that your followers are active and engaged. It can be very discouraging to work on your brand’s social media presence day after day and receive no feedback from your followers.

There can be many different reasons why you aren’t receiving the engagement that you are looking for. We have outlined some of the most common reasons below:

  • You’re Being Too Promotional: Many businesses fall into the trap of only sharing content that talks about their own products and services. If you aren’t sharing other types of relevant content, like insights, links to articles and photos, your customers are less likely to engage, and may even unlike your page.
  • You Aren’t Posting at the Right Time: Social media is all about timing. If you aren’t sharing posts when your users are online, then by the time they log on your posts will be pushed closer to the bottom of their feed. Facebook Insights gives you pertinent information on when your fans are online and using Facebook, giving you the information you need to post at the right time, every time.
  • You Aren’t Sharing Audience Appropriate Content: Similar to the first point, if you aren’t sharing the type of content that your fans want to see, you won’t get likes, comments and shares in return. The more engaging and relevant the content you post, the more likes, comments and shares you receive. Comments allow you to engage in a conversation with fans, while shares and likes expand the reach of your content to users outside of your network.
