This is part one of our four-part series, “Making a Marketer.”
Look around you; technology and digital media are everywhere. Odds are, you are reading this on a computer or mobile device. Not only is technology all around us, but it is also ever expanding and evolving. It should be quite obvious that web marketing is a highly valuable asset to your company. You would be doing your company a disservice if you ignored the importance of web marketing when you establish a marketing plan and budget for your business.
To help you become a successful web marketer here are some tips to get you started:
Part i: LEARN BY DOING
Learn how to crawl before you can Run
The first step is obviously to learn the basics. For starters, you will want to understand your brand--know it inside and out--so you know what you are offering. Next, identify your target customer base, so you understand to whom you are speaking. Do this by creating a Buyer Persona, which you can read more about here.
You have to study if you want to learn
You’ve heard of the internet, right? Well, online there is an innumerable amount of resources available to help you learn how to be the best marketer you can be. Educational blogs are being released more and more by the day. Hubspot, Copyblogger, and Moz are a few of our favorite sources. We also offer Tuesday Tips right here at Tribute Media as well. These are valuable learning tools, and you are highly encouraged to utilize as many as you can.
Who doesn’t love an educational video?
Have you read so many blogs that your eyes have started to cross? Not to worry, digital media has you covered. It is 2016, continued education can also be accomplished through video as well. Our friends at Hubspot have dozens of free classes you can take on varied web marketing topics. It’s recommended you take advantage of both options by clicking here.
Your tools are your friends. Trust them.
Now that you have started to understand the what and how of marketing, it is time to get in there and start doing it. Learn by doing is an ever-present part of being a web marketer. Many tools have been created to help you stay organized and try and make your life easier in general. Social media tools like Hootsuite and Sendible, as well as SEO tools such as SEM Rush and Google Analytics, will eventually become your best friend in helping you monitor and organize your web marketing plan. Hubspot even has a blog topic generator for those days when your brain has taken the day off.
Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day
Because of the ever evolving and expanding nature of digital media, your job as a web marketer will often be trial and error. Try something new, and if it fails then reevaluate, study trends and try again. Don’t let yourself get discouraged. Once you think you have it figured out, it will change on you. You have to be willing to grow with your market to succeed.
These tips are just to help you get acquainted with web marketing. Most colleges and high schools are offering classes in digital marketing. For those of you who have been in the industry for several years now, it might be time to enroll in or audit a few classes. Continued education is essential to this ever changing business.
In the second part, we will explore ways to learn and advance through teaching web marketing.
There's no doubt you have many choices when it comes to web design and web marketing services. Your middle schooler probably knows his way around CSS and HTML and every college kid is a blogger. The problem is, a site that looks hot but doesn't have well-thought out strategy, is like a certain reality show family we can't name for legal reasons: pretty, but worthless.
The difference between a web site and a web strategy is something that the experts at Tribute Media have mastered. Put us to work and we'll create a web strategy that will help you generate leads and grow your business.
