Look in the Social Media Mirror

Many businesses have a hard time starting and maintaining a social media presence. Just like anything else in life, getting started is the hard part. There may be times when you feel like you're posting status updates and tweeting to an empty room. That isn't the time to throw in the towel on social media; rather it is time to look in the social media mirror!

Who is your company? This is more than just what are your products and what do you sell. What does your company stand for? What do you want to be known for?

What makes your company different? What makes your company stand out from your competitors? How are you incorporating this into your social media content, sharing, and engagement? If you aren't, you should be!

Are you reactive or proactive? Do you just post social content spur of the moment, or do you think about it first? If you have a end goal in mind from your social media participation, think about it before you post.

Have you looked in the mirror? This is the best technique to correct your past social media mistakes. Take a look at the last 20 status updates your company has made on Facebook. Do the same for your other social media channels such as Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. Does your social content meet the kinds of messages you want to be sending? If not, now you know what you can do to change your companies voice on social media.
