Guide Your Visitors

If you could only have your website visitors accomplish one thing on your website, what would it be? Complete a sale? Perhaps subscribe to your newsletter? Like your page of Facebook?  Regardless of your goal, it is vital that your website has one. Your goal can even just be to share specific information, whether it is about a new product or service or a current promotion that you are running. Whenever a customer completes one of these goals it is considered a conversion.

Whatever your goal for your visitors is, you must make it clear and easy for them to accomplish. The more steps that you add in the process the less likely it is that a customer will actually do what you want them to do.

Some of the easiest ways to maximize conversions on your website include:

  • Clear Calls to Action: Do your customers know what you want them to do? It may seem simple, but oftentimes users aren’t going to sign up for that newsletter if the information is buried at the bottom of the page. Clear, concise calls to action that are easy for customers to accomplish are vital in boosting your conversion rate and getting the most out of each website visit.

  • User Friendly Experience: Is your website designed in such a way that users feel comfortable navigating it? Is it easy to use? An easy way to test this is to have friends/family/customers submit feedback on the site. Give them a specific task to complete and have them report back to you on how easy or difficult it was to accomplish, and recommendations on how to improve it. They key here is to not implement every recommendation you receive. Find the ideas that make the most sense and that you hear the most and then make strategic changes to your website that increase usability.
  • Understand Current Trends: The best way to improve user conversions is to first understand how users are currently navigating your website. Are they dropping off on a specific page? If so, you will want to evaluate each step in the process and how you can best improve the overall user experience, ensuring that it is easy for users to follow the path you have laid before them. An easy way to discover this information is to setup Google Analytics for your website. It’s free, and gives you many of the tools that you need to identify this critical information.

These are just a few of the ways to get the most out of each website visit. If your website isn’t easy to navigate, isn’t clear about what you want customers to do and you don’t know how customers are currently navigating your website, it will be difficult to understand how to make changes.
