Generating Traffic to Your Website

One of the major concerns for business owners that have a web presence is generating a fair amount of traffic to their websites. There are certain goals that business owners set when operating on the web which can include users filling out a contact form, signing up for a newsletter, or buying products online. None of these goals will be realized if traffic doesn’t find itself on a website. That is why the first step in getting a conversion is having users get to your site.

Traffic to a website can be generated numerous ways. It can happen both organically or through paid advertising online. There are also myriad ways that it can be generated through offline means. Whatever method your business chooses, understand that traffic doesn’t mean you will be getting a conversion. Although this is true, the more traffic that comes to your site, the greater chance you will have to get a conversion out of more people.

Ways that you can generate more traffic to your website include:

  • Online Advertising- This is definitely a surefire way to get some clicks going to your website, especially if you are targeting the correct audience. Although it is something you pay for, if your conversion rate becomes high enough from an ad campaign, it will be worth it. Make sure you have compelling ad copy that makes a user want to click through to your site.
  • Social Media- Social media can definitely be a traffic generator to your website if utilized correctly. If you have just written a new blog or want to share something from your site, social media can be a really great way to drive people to a specific spot on your website. Facebook and Twitter allow you to attach a link to your status update, making it a clickable button for users. This is an organic form of traffic generation and doesn’t cost your business in advertising dollars.
  • Sharing your Content- A great way to drive traffic to your site is utilizing the virility of the Internet. The problem with this approach is that it is often hard to control or predict. The only thing you can really do in this situation, aside from writing a guest blog, is to generate really good content on your website and hope it catches on. This will typically result in quality traffic to your site as users will follow links to land on your original article.
  • Offline Promotions- Something that is often ignored is the offline aspect of conducting business online. Whenever you run a billboard campaign, put decals on your vehicle, or talk to anyone in your office, you should be letting people know that you have a website. While most people take it as a basic assumption nowadays, listing your website address along with an material you put out will serve as a reminder to anyone that will want to search you out online.
